Intro Flights (Introductory Flight Lessons)

Are you interested in flying but first want to find out what it's like? You can try it out before committing to anything. An Intro Flight is a perfect way to see what flying is about. It is a real first flight lesson with an FAA certified Flight Instructor. If you then decide to train as a pilot, you can even log this first lesson toward the required training.

The goal of an Intro Flight is to introduce you to flying and help you to see if learning to fly is for you. Your safety, enjoyment and education are our first priorities.

What is available:

Intro flights are sold as Gift Certificates. You may buy one for your own use, or as many as you want as gifts for others. The following options are available:

Sport Intro Flight
$149
Traditional Intro Flight

$199

The difference between the two Intro Flights is that the Sport Intro Flight may only be done in our Light Sport Aircraft with 2 seats.  The Traditional Intro Flight may be done in our 4-seat aircraft, and you may bring along a passenger.  Both flights are a full 1 hour in the aircraft, not just 30-40 minutes like elsewhere.

Who can do it:

Anyone 15 years of age or over who is interested in flying can do an Intro Flight. Since this is a special deal meant to be an introduction to flying, each person is eligible to go once. If you want to continue to learn to fly afterward, we will explain your options.

What is included:
You will meet with a flight instructor who will chat with you about your interest and current experience if any. The instructor will explain a little about aircraft and flying and then take you to the aircraft. You will see how to do a quick inspection of the aircraft, get in and start the engine. You'll taxi out to the runway and then take off for a short flight. Depending on the length of the flight, you will try straight and level flight, turns, climbs, descents and at least a demonstration of one landing. Depending on your interest and comfort level, the instructor may even demonstrate slow flight or stalls. The lesson will be tailored to your interest and comfort level.

Our Intro flights are a full one hour in length. This is the amount of time actually in the aircraft with the engine running. There will be additional time on the ground with your instructor before and after the flight.  This allows plenty of time to see how to fly the plane outside the immediate area surrounding the airport. If there's a particular area you'd like to fly over you may be able to do that, for example downtown or your own house.

What you will fly:
You will do a flight lesson in one of our two training aircraft. Our two-seat Light Sport Aircraft, the Tecnam Bravo will be the one you will be interested in if you're goal is to get a Sport Pilot certificate, or just want to fly our most affordable aircraft. This is a fun, capable very new airplane.

On the other hand, if you are interested in a slightly larger, more comfortable 4-seat plane, you can fly our Piper Archer III. If you would like to take a friend with you on your flight, you can in the Piper. Larger potential pilots may be more comfortable in this plane, too. It even has air-conditioning for those warmer days.

How to get started:
Just call us within 7 days of when you'd like to fly. If you have received or previously purchased a Gift Certificate you are ready to go or you can make the purchase and schedule at the same time. Let us know of any questions or concerns you might have and we'll answer them as best we can. We'll find a time convenient for you and an instructor and get you on the schedule. Please allow 2 hours for your flight to allow for time before and after to answer any further questoins. Then just show up at the scheduled time and enjoy your flight.

After the Intro Flight:
After the flight, your instructor will answer any last questions you have about the flight. Then a Step Up employee will take a few minutes to explain how you can learn to fly with us. You can take an information packet home with you that explains everything. Then if and when you decide to sign up, you can let us know and start your lessons. It's all up to you, and there is no obligation after the Intro Flight.
